Short answer: AI assistants are starting to do things for people, not just answer questions: find a free table, compare prices, check out. Today the documented features are mostly in the United States, with Google's restaurant booking also in the United Kingdom. One exception: OpenAI lists ChatGPT's restaurant reservations through OpenTable as available globally; the other features do not name Luxembourg. Your website is ready when an agent, like a person, can read your contact details as text, follow real links to book or ask for a quote, and use a simple form. The practical steps are in our guide Make it easy to contact and book you.

What is an AI agent for a local business?

An AI agent is an assistant that takes steps for a user. Instead of answering "Which Italian restaurants are open on Saturday?", it checks which ones have a table for four at 20:00 and hands over a booking link, or places the order itself.

The word is used loosely, so this article only covers what the providers themselves document. Every feature below comes from a provider's own page, opened on 24 October 2026. Where a page does not say whether a feature works in Luxembourg, we write "not stated".

What Google AI Mode can book and buy

Google has the most documented features, all inside AI Mode in Google Search.

  • Restaurant reservations. You describe what you want (group size, cuisine, area, time). AI Mode checks several reservation platforms and websites for real-time availability and links you to the booking page to finish. Google launched it for U.S. AI Ultra subscribers in Labs in August 2025 (Google), opened it on AI Mode in the U.S. without Labs in November 2025 (Google) and launched it "across the UK" in April 2026, with partners such as TheFork, SevenRooms, ResDiary and OpenTable (Google UK).
  • Event tickets and beauty and wellness appointments. Available "to all U.S. Labs users" (Google).
  • Buying products. Users can check out with eligible U.S. retailers using Google Pay. Google's help page says: "This feature is only available for signed in 18+ users in the US, in English" (Google Search Help).
  • Checking local availability and prices. AI Mode can look up appointment slots, service prices and stock nearby, by "completing forms, or calling businesses directly" when the information is not online. Google says it is available in English to signed-in users over 18; the page does not name countries (Google Search Help). A related feature where Google calls several local providers for price quotes is U.S. only (Google Search Help).

Behind these features, Google lists a visitor called Google-Agent, "used by agents hosted on Google infrastructure to navigate the web and perform actions upon user request" (Google).

Luxembourg: Google's help page lists Luxembourg among the countries where AI Mode is available, with French and German among the supported languages (Google Search Help). None of the booking or checkout pages above names Luxembourg.

Can ChatGPT book or buy for your customers?

OpenAI's help and developer pages document four things that matter for a local business:

  • Restaurant reservations in ChatGPT search. ChatGPT can find restaurants and available times, with availability from OpenTable, Resy or Yelp. OpenAI says: "OpenTable reservations are available globally, Resy reservations are available in the United States, and Yelp reservations are available in the United States and Canada." It works on eligible consumer plans, not on ChatGPT Work, Business, Enterprise or Edu. The user confirms the details and completes the booking, and ChatGPT may ask permission to fill in their name and email (OpenAI Help Center: Searching the web with ChatGPT).
  • A cloud browser that acts on websites. OpenAI's earlier "ChatGPT agent" has been retired: "ChatGPT agent is no longer available", and OpenAI points to ChatGPT Work and its cloud browser instead (OpenAI Help Center: ChatGPT agent). The cloud browser gives ChatGPT Work its own browser in the cloud. "It can read web pages, click buttons, enter information into forms, and carry out steps on supported public and signed-in websites." OpenAI's example tasks include "Check restaurant availability or request quotes from businesses", comparing local stock, and finding an appointment and preparing the booking for the user to approve. It is available in ChatGPT Work on paid plans, excluding Free and Go, and OpenAI says ChatGPT is designed to ask for confirmation before steps such as confirming a booking or making a payment (OpenAI Help Center: Using cloud browser in ChatGPT).
  • Some websites block it, and you can let it in. OpenAI notes that some websites use security measures that restrict automated browser agents and may block ChatGPT (OpenAI Help Center). For site owners who want to allow it, the cloud browser signs its requests with Web Bot Auth (HTTP Message Signatures). Cloudflare recognises it as a signed agent with detection ID 129220581, which you can allow with a WAF custom rule; Akamai and HUMAN list it as "ChatGPT Agent"; sites on Vercel need no configuration (OpenAI Help Center: ChatGPT Work's Cloud browser allowlisting).
  • ChatGPT visits pages for users. "When users ask ChatGPT or a CustomGPT a question, it may visit a web page with a ChatGPT-User agent." Because a user started the visit, OpenAI says robots.txt rules may not apply (OpenAI).
  • Shopping inside ChatGPT. Stripe and OpenAI built the Agentic Commerce Protocol, an open standard that lets AI agents start a checkout while the business stays the merchant of record. OpenAI is the first platform to use it in ChatGPT, and "If your business wants to participate in ChatGPT, you'll need to apply" (Agentic Commerce Protocol). Sharing a product feed with ChatGPT "is currently available to approved partners" (OpenAI).

Luxembourg: OpenTable reservations are listed as available globally. OpenAI gives no country list for the cloud browser (only "supported regions"), and the commerce pages do not name countries.

What Microsoft Copilot can do on websites

Microsoft's FAQ for Copilot Mode in the Edge browser says Copilot Actions lets people "hand off tasks for their AI companion to complete on their behalf". It calls Copilot Mode an "experimental mode", available in Edge for Windows and Mac "in all Copilot markets", and says Copilot Pro subscribers get higher usage limits on Copilot Actions (Microsoft). The FAQ does not describe booking or buying in detail.

Luxembourg: not stated. The FAQ does not list the Copilot markets.

What Perplexity can buy

Perplexity's shopping lets users compare products in a conversation and buy without leaving it, through a partnership with PayPal. Retailers stay the merchant of record, so returns and loyalty stay with them. Perplexity announced it in November 2025 as free for "all US Perplexity users" (Perplexity).

Luxembourg: not stated. The announcement covers the United States only.

Is your website ready for AI agents? What to check

The good news for a Luxembourg business: none of this needs special code, and every step also helps human customers. Take Café Ribeiro, a fictional café. If a customer in London asks an assistant for "a table for four at Café Ribeiro on Saturday", the agent needs the same things a person on a phone needs.

  1. Contact facts as text. Phone with +352, email, opening hours and languages written on the page, not inside an image, a map or a chat widget. Step 1 of Make it easy to contact and book you.
  2. Real links for each action. "Book a table", "Ask for a quote", "Call us": each a normal link with its own address, not a button that only opens a pop-up.
  3. A public booking page. If you use a booking tool, show its public link next to the embedded widget, and put the same link on your Google Business Profile.
  4. Short forms with labels. Google says AI Mode may complete forms to gather information for a user (Google Search Help). A short form where every field has a visible label is easier for everyone to fill in.
  5. Content that loads without scripts. Check your phone number, prices and booking link are in the page your server sends. Is your content visible without JavaScript? explains how to check.
  6. Structured data with your contact point. Add contactPoint with the same phone and email as the page. See Tell machines who you are: structured data.
  7. Prices you can publish. Agents that compare options can only use prices they can read. See Should you publish your prices?.
  8. Do not block agents by accident. Some firewalls and security plugins block every bot. Check if Cloudflare or your firewall blocks AI bots. If you want ChatGPT's cloud browser to reach you, OpenAI explains how to allowlist it (OpenAI Help Center).
  9. Decide about Google's automated calls. Google may call the number on your Business Profile for customers who want to book or check prices, in select regions and languages. You can switch this off under Business Profile settings, Advanced settings, "Google automated calls and text messages" (Google Business Profile Help).

These steps make your information available and easier to use. They do not guarantee that any assistant will choose or recommend your business.

Should a Luxembourg business act now or wait?

Apart from ChatGPT's OpenTable reservations, which OpenAI lists as available globally, booking and buying agents are not documented for Luxembourg yet, so there is no rush to buy anything. But the checks above take about an hour, cost nothing, and help today's visitors, Google and the AI assistants that already read your site to answer questions. When the features do arrive here, you will not have to start from zero.

FAQ

Can AI agents book a table or an appointment in Luxembourg today?

Partly. ChatGPT can find restaurants and available times and take the user into a reservation through OpenTable, Resy or Yelp; OpenAI lists OpenTable reservations as available globally, Resy in the United States and Yelp in the United States and Canada (OpenAI Help Center). ChatGPT Work's cloud browser can check restaurant availability or request quotes on websites, but OpenAI gives no country list for it (OpenAI Help Center). Google's agentic booking in AI Mode is documented for the United States and the United Kingdom (Google, Google UK). AI Mode itself is available in Luxembourg, but its help page does not mention bookings (Google Search Help).

Does an AI agent finish the booking itself?

In Google's restaurant feature, no. AI Mode finds tables with free slots and links the user to the booking page to finish (Google UK). In ChatGPT, the user confirms the details and completes the booking flow (OpenAI Help Center), and the cloud browser is designed to ask for confirmation before steps such as confirming a booking or making a payment (OpenAI Help Center). Purchases are different: Google's checkout in AI Mode (US only) and Perplexity's instant checkout (US only) let the user pay without leaving the assistant.

Do I need special code for AI agents?

No. Providers do not ask small businesses for anything special. The same basics that help a person on a phone help an agent: contact details as text, real links, a public booking page and simple forms with labels. Our guide Make it easy to contact and book you walks through them.

Should I block AI agents from my website?

Think twice. Agents visit because a person asked them to, for example to check your opening hours or book. Google says such user-triggered visitors "generally ignore robots.txt rules" (Google), so blocking them takes a firewall rule, and it also blocks those customers. OpenAI also says some websites block its cloud browser, and publishes instructions for site owners who want to allow it (OpenAI Help Center). Our firewall guide explains how to check what you block today.

Can Google phone my business for a customer?

Google says it may call the number on your Business Profile for customers who want to book, check wait times or confirm prices, "currently available only in select regions and languages". You can turn these calls off in Business Profile settings, under Advanced settings (Google Business Profile Help).
