Short answer: in 2025, 42.5% of people aged 16 to 74 in Luxembourg had used a generative AI tool such as ChatGPT, Gemini or Copilot in the previous three months. That is about ten points above the EU average of 32.7%, and in line with Belgium (42.0%) and the Netherlands (44.7%) (Eurostat). This is the latest official figure: the 2026 survey results are not published yet.

How many people in Luxembourg use generative AI?

The official source is the EU survey on the use of ICT in households and by individuals, run in Luxembourg by STATEC and published by Eurostat. Eurostat published the first EU results on generative AI on 16 December 2025 (Eurostat news release). The question covers people aged 16 to 74 and asks whether they used a generative AI tool in the three months before the survey. STATEC ran the survey between June and August 2025 with a representative sample of residents aged 16 to 74 (STATEC, Regards 03/26).

So the honest answer is: roughly four in ten residents aged 16 to 74 had used one recently in 2025. The survey does not count people under 16 or over 74, and it does not count cross-border workers, who live in Belgium, France or Germany.

Source: Eurostat, dataset isoc_ai_iaiu, percentage of all individuals aged 16 to 74, read on 24 October 2026 (data last updated 5 June 2026). A person can use AI for more than one purpose, so the columns do not add up. Eurostat's December 2025 news release gave 25.1% (private) and 15.1% (work) for the EU; the dataset has since been updated, which is why the EU figures above differ slightly.

Two things stand out for Luxembourg. Private use (35.7%) is the highest of the six in the table. Work use (24.9%) is well above the EU average and close to the Netherlands.

Who uses AI assistants in Luxembourg: young people vs older people

Age makes the biggest difference. In Luxembourg, 66.0% of people aged 16 to 24 used generative AI in the last three months of the 2025 survey, against 9.5% of people aged 65 to 74. The EU figures are 63.8% and 6.5% (Eurostat, isoc_ai_iaiu; Eurostat news, 10 February 2026).

STATEC's July 2026 study looked at attitudes among internet users aged 16 to 74, using the same 2025 survey. 63% see generative AI mainly as an opportunity and 37% mainly as a threat. 72% of 16 to 24 year olds see it as an opportunity, while 52% of 65 to 74 year olds see it as a threat. Among people who see AI as a threat, 74% say they don't use it (STATEC, Regards 03/26).

Which AI assistants do people in Luxembourg use?

No official survey breaks AI use down by brand for Luxembourg. The closest public number comes from StatCounter, and it measures something different: the share of clicks that each chatbot sends to websites, not the number of users.

Google Gemini8.9%
Perplexity5.5%

Microsoft Copilot2.5%

Source: StatCounter, AI chatbot market share in Luxembourg, read on 24 October 2026. StatCounter counts a click from a chatbot through to a website in its network; it cannot see questions that never lead to a click (StatCounter FAQ). Treat this as "which chatbot sends people to websites", not "how many people use each chatbot". Google AI Overviews do not appear in this list.

How many Luxembourg businesses use AI?

A separate Eurostat survey covers enterprises with 10 or more employees. In Luxembourg, 33.6% used at least one AI technology in 2025, up from 23.7% in 2024. The EU average was 20.0% in 2025 (Eurostat, isoc_eb_ai).

Source: Eurostat, dataset isoc_eb_ai, percentage of enterprises, read on 24 October 2026 (data last updated 15 June 2026). Eurostat flags a break in the series for the Netherlands in 2025. Important for Luxembourg: this survey leaves out the financial sector, agriculture and mining (Eurostat), so banks, insurers and funds are not in these numbers.

The same dataset shows 13.9% of Luxembourg enterprises with 10+ employees using AI that generates text, speech or code in 2025 (EU: 8.8%), and 5.7% using AI for marketing or sales (EU: 6.9%).

What this means for Luxembourg businesses

  • Some of your customers already ask AI. With about four in ten residents aged 16 to 74 using these tools, it is likely that some people look for a fiduciary, a restaurant or a consultant this way. The survey does not say how many of them use AI to find a business, so nobody can give you an exact number.
  • Google is still where most searches happen. Almost six in ten residents aged 16 to 74 had not used generative AI in the three months before the survey. Your Google presence still comes first; AI answers are an extra channel built partly on the same information.
  • It depends on who your customers are. If you sell to students, young professionals or office workers, the share is higher. If your customers are mostly over 65, it is much lower.
  • Your customers use several languages. Check what AI says about you in English, French and German, not just one (guide: AI visibility in several languages).
  • Measure before you spend. Check what AI assistants say about you and see whether AI already sends visitors to your website before deciding how much effort it deserves.
