Free tools change often. Everything below is taken from each tool's own page on 24 October 2026; check the page again before you rely on it.
Short answer: a free AI visibility check from HubSpot, Semrush, Ahrefs, Search Atlas or Backlinko gives you an automatic result in seconds or minutes, and most need no account. Their pages say which AI assistants they ask, but most do not say which language they ask in, and only one lets you set a location. Letzscale's free report focuses on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews and arrives in 1 to 2 business days: it asks from Luxembourg, in English, French and German, and a person checks it before you get it.
What is a free AI visibility check?
It is a quick test of whether AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity mention your business when people ask about your type of business. You type in your brand or website, the tool asks the assistants a set of questions, and you get a score or a list of mentions.
These free checks are different from the paid tracking tools that check hundreds of questions every day. If you are weighing those up, read Semrush, Ahrefs, Peec AI or Profound vs a GEO service. This article is only about the free, one-time checks.
Which free AI visibility checkers are there?
We picked five well-known free checkers and read each tool's own page. We compare them only by what each page says. Where a page says nothing, the table says "not stated". That does not mean the tool cannot do it, only that the page does not tell you.
| Free checker | AI assistants named | Questions asked | Language of the questions | Can you set the location? | Checked by a person? | What you give |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| HubSpot AI Search Grader | GPT-5.4 mini (OpenAI), Perplexity, Gemini | Not stated | Not stated | Yes, a required field (city, country, region or global) | No: the page says the recommendations "have not been reviewed by a human being" | Company name, location, products or services, industry; a further form to unlock the full report (fields not listed) |
| Semrush AI Visibility Checker | ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Mode, AI Overviews | Not stated per check; draws on a database of 26M+ prompts and responses | Not stated | Not stated (the page says Semrush supports 220+ countries and regions) | Not stated | Your domain or website address; no account; free 3 times a day |
| Ahrefs Free AI Visibility Checker | ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode | Not stated; free results show the top 5 per section | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | A brand name; no signup |
| Search Atlas AI Visibility | ChatGPT and Gemini in the free check | 10 prompts | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | Your brand or domain; no account |
| Backlinko AI Brand Visibility Checker (Backlinko is a Semrush trademark) | ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini | 150 live queries about your category | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | Company name, website, product category, one competitor |
| Letzscale free report | ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews | 10 questions your customers ask | English, French and German | Asked from Luxembourg | Yes, every report | Your website, email and first name |

What does each free checker show you?
The results also differ. Again, in each tool's own words:
- HubSpot: a score out of 100, built from five parts: sentiment, presence quality, brand recognition, share of voice and market competition. The page says the tool reports what the assistants say "based on their training data" and that the free result is ready in under two minutes (HubSpot).
- Semrush: an AI Visibility Score, mentions, citations, platform coverage, audience reach, top cited pages, best performing topics, topic volume and a competitor comparison (Semrush).
- Ahrefs: total AI mentions, mentions per AI platform, top 5 topics, top 5 cited domains and top 5 cited pages. The page describes it as a one-time check, with no history and no competitor comparison (Ahrefs).
- Search Atlas: mention rate, citation rate and a competitor gap, with snippets for each prompt showing who was mentioned and which sources were cited (Search Atlas).
- Backlinko: how often you are mentioned and your average position, gaps by platform and type of question, a score, and a step-by-step checklist sorted by difficulty (Backlinko).
Each tool scores in its own way, so a 62 in one tool and a 40 in another are not comparable. Our guide on how to read an AI visibility score explains what to look at instead of the number.
What to check before you trust a free result in Luxembourg
Take Kastell Conseil, a fictional consultancy in Luxembourg City. Its clients ask ChatGPT in English, French and sometimes German, and they ask from Luxembourg. Before it reads any free score, it should ask three things:
- Where was the question asked from? AI assistants can recommend different businesses depending on where the question is asked. If you cannot set the location, you may be looking at answers for another market.
- In which language? A result in English only tells you about English. Our guide Be visible in French, German and English shows why French and German answers can differ.
- Which questions? A tool that only asks about your brand name tells you whether AI knows you. It does not tell you whether AI names you when a client asks "best consultancy for a new SARL in Luxembourg?", which is the question that brings work.
You can also check for yourself, for free. Our guide Check what ChatGPT says about your business shows how; a quick check takes about 30 minutes.
What is in the Letzscale free report?
As our site describes it, the free report "What AI Says About Your Business" contains:
- a score from 0 to 100 for how often ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews recommend you
- their answers to 10 questions your customers ask, in English, French and German
- the 3 competitors they name instead of you
- what they get wrong about you
- the first five things to fix, with what each involves and how long it takes
How it is made: we ask from Luxembourg, with a fresh account with no history, logged out where possible, on the free versions most people use. A person on our team reads every answer and checks the report before it is sent. Because of that, we make 7 reports a week, and requests after the 7th move to the next week.
What you give: your website, your email address and your first name. We do not need access to your website; we only look at what is public. It is free, one per company, with no obligation, and it arrives by email within 1 to 2 business days. No call is needed.
What it does not cover: Claude, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot are tested in our paid packages, not in the free report.
Free checker or reviewed report: which one should you use?
- Use a free checker if you want an answer in minutes, want to see how AI assistants outside ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews mention you, or want to check a competitor's brand. Most of the five need no account.
- Use a reviewed report if your customers are in Luxembourg and ask in French or German as well as English, if you want to see the actual answers and what is wrong in them, or if you want a short list of what to fix first.
- Use both if you like. They do not cost anything, and seeing where they agree is useful in itself.
If you want the Luxembourg picture, get your free report: what ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews say about your business, checked by a person.
FAQ
Is there a free AI visibility check?
Yes. HubSpot, Semrush, Ahrefs, Search Atlas and Backlinko all publish free checkers that show whether AI assistants mention your brand. Letzscale's free report is another option, made by a person instead of an automatic tool.
Which free checker lets me set Luxembourg as the location?
Of the five tools we looked at, only HubSpot's AI Search Grader asks for a location on its form. The other four pages do not say you can choose a country.
Do free AI visibility checkers test French or German?
None of the five tool pages we read says which language the questions are asked in. Some offer their website in several languages, but that is the page, not the test.
Does a person check the results?
HubSpot's page says its recommendations have not been reviewed by a human. The other four pages do not say. A person on our team checks every Letzscale free report before it is sent.
Can I use a free checker and the Letzscale free report?
Yes. They answer slightly different questions, and comparing them is useful. Run a checker today, and ask for our report if you want the answers for Luxembourg in English, French and German.
